CubCrafters

After many years of “getting there” in a Baron, a Cirrus, or any other traveling machine, many pilots reach a point in life where it’s time to kick back, relax, and enjoy the “EXPERIENCE” of flight. 

At CubCrafters, our mission is to provide that EXPERIENCE in a well-built, quality taildragger that puts the FUN back into flying.  In addition, with two aircraft models that qualify under the Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) rule, learning to fly and aircraft ownership have not been more affordable in many, many years!

CubCrafters was founded in 1980 by current owner and Chairman Jim Richmond.  After fifteen years of rebuilding Piper Super Cubs, an opportunity arose for the Company to begin building new airplanes (essentially an improved Super Cub) under the “Spares & Surplus Rule” of the Federal Aviation Regulations.  In 2004, CubCrafters was awarded a FAA Production Certificate under the rigorous specifications of FAR Part 23, and the TOP CUB was born.  Since then, the Company has grown from a small Super Cub rebuilding shop to a state-of-the art aircraft manufacturer occupying a 40,000 square-foot facility in Yakima, WA.

Today, in addition to the TOP CUB, CubCrafters manufactures two aircraft that qualify under the FAA Light Sport Aircraft rules; the 100 HP SPORT CUB S2, and the fire breathing, gravity defying, 180 HP CARBON CUB SS.  Each of these aircraft are manufactured in our FAR Part 23 certified manufacturing facility; the only LSA manufacturer with this capability.
